Club Purpose

UPAC Lights is a division of the Union Programming and Activities Committee (UPAC), a part of the Rensselaer Student Union. Our purpose is to provide professional dance and concert lighting for the Rensselaer Community. We set up, run, and take down lighting for large on-campus events such as dances, comedy shows, concerts, and cultural events. UPAC Lights also provides equipment rentals to RPI clubs, departments, fraternities, and sororities.

UPAC Lights is a 100% student run organization. We provide an opportunity for students to get involved and work behind the scenes developing their technical, social, and leadership skills. There are four grades of membership in UPAC Lights: Trainees who are students that have just signed on and are learning the ropes; Technicians have completed their training and can work for pay; Crew Chiefs are those students who show initiative and competency with the equipment and are responsible for everything that happens at an event; and Chair people coordinate the group.

The responsibilities of the chair people are as follows:

Administrative Chairperson

The Administrative Chairperson is responsible for membership records, payroll, staffing shows, meetings, and keeping overall control of the UPAC Lights organization. The Administrative Chairperson must also coordinate with the other chair people to develop the club budget, and to arrange for training of new members.

Equipment Chairperson

The Equipment Chairperson is responsible for the maintenance, acquisition, repair, and construction of all of our equipment. The Equipment Chairperson is also responsible for maintaining a list of equipment available as well as coordinating with the other chair people to develop the club budget, and to arrange for training of new members.

Facilities / Recruitment Chairperson

The Facilities / Recruitment Chairperson is responsible for checking contracts for possible rentals, confirming rentals, submitting money transactions to the Administrative Chairperson, and in coordination with the Equipment Chairperson confirming equipment availability. This person also is to arrange for the recruitment of new members and to provide training opportunities for these new members. The Facilities / Recruitment Chairperson is to maintain the Public Safety key list and resolve issues regarding UPAC Lights venues as well as coordinating with the other chair people to develop the club budget.
